How We Find Coal Seam Natural Gas
The three types of gas exploration:
- Seismic exploration which use geophones and sound wave equipment to examine the layers of the earth, known as the geological strata. It has been described as like taking an ultrasound of the earth. This information, in conjunction with existing geological data, is used to determine where to further explore.
- Corehole drilling, where we take samples of the layers of the earth, including the coal seam. It has been described as like taking a biopsy of the earth.
- Test wells may be established to evaluate the flow and quality of the gas in the coal seam. Typically these wells only operate for several months.
